Sorry to roll back your FAQ edit, but I'm afraid it wasn't accurate. If your project incorporates code released under the GPL, your project needs to be released under the GPL as well, full stop. You would not be allowed to use another, GPL-compatible license.

GPL compatibility comes into play when you take code from other sources and incorporate it into a GPLed project: when you want to do that, the project has to be released under a GPL-compatible license. But the whole project, including any new code, has to be released under the GPL. Hope this helps clear things up. --brett 13:24, 22 June 2007 (EDT)
